Torggler Summer Vocal Institute 2013
July 7th, 2013, the debut of the worldrenowned Torggler Summer Vocal Institute. When the finest college and highschool vocal talent came from all corners of the country to study with the world's leading performers and pedagogs. And that's another thing, when I write, when I work on a song, I've got stuff all over the page. I write my rhyme schemes, what rhymes with what, where the interrhymes are, all of that, and then I start writing what am I thinkingé What's going on here reallyé Is that a lieé Is that a truthé What am I really sayingé
Is that introspectiveé Is it noté You know, is it to heré And I think, what happens if I'm sitting out in the audience and I see that. If I sing the song like this, it's a little creepy. Righté So I know, as an artist, I'm gonna break that up a little bit. Okay, because it's a love song. And it's about what's going on in his head as well. The Institute is housed in the worldclass Ferguson Center for the Arts of Christopher Newport University, located in the ocean resort of Hampton Roads, Virginia.
The Institute is made possible by the extraordinary vision and generosity of George and Mary Torggler, long time patrons of the Vocal Arts, who simply love seeing young talent develop and succeed. Unlike other summer programs, the Summer Vocal Institute engages students for 2 full weeks on campus, from early morning to late evening. Providing master classes, workshops, lessons, lectures, concerts, recitals and more. sings Participants perform each week for both pedagogs in both classical voice and music theatre,
who are considered to be the finest teachers and artists in the country. The participants receive lessons and coachings and perform twice each week in one of our 2 acousticly superb concert halls. Where friends and family enjoy seeing them live or via our state of the art live streaming. And of course, participants receive the finest seats in the house. As they experience the visiting artists and ensembles, performance and then interact with them in highly select receptions. But the Torggler Institute reaches beyond mere vocal technique,
the Institute provides working directors, ians, coaches, and New York talent agents who provide workshops in dance, stage movement and acting. As well as informative lectures on vocal health, vocal physiology, and audition strategies. Sometimes, a lot of times what would happen is you get an equity audition, on your first audition they give you 16 bars, so you sing your best 16 bars of the song. You sing your song with the money note in it, there's a big high note at the end, that's the thing you want to sing.
So you want to know before you go in, because you don't know they may say you know, we're running out of time today, just give me 16 bars. And best of all, the Torggler Institute provides ample opportunities for our participants to interact oneonone with our guest artists, ensembles and ians, providing invaluable innetworking opportunities for future study and performance. Of course, being located just minutes from the Virginia Beach oceanfront, we load up a doubledecker bus on a Sunday after our first intensive week of study and enjoy a day of riding the waves, sunning ourselves on the beach and even taking in a little shopping
