That's how tough you gotta be when you rap like 2 chainz Once you've got that down all you have to do is rap about all things that are plainly obvious She got a big booty so I call her quot;big bootyquot; Or a line like this I'm in the kitchen. Yams everywhere Or.
All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho Yes those are actual lyrics from his song quot;birthday songquot; But really once you perfect your 2 chainz you can do it with anything I like this lamp yo that's why i purchased this lamp I'm in the kitchen. Lecture 7 Harmony Chords and How to Build Them
Prof: All right. Let's get started. Here we go again. Going to have some fun againtoday. Notice, of course,we have the signin sheet when you come in every morning,a great thing to do. As we say, this is not Yale'smost demanding class, but one thing we do ask you todo is come to the lectures and
come to section. You may know if some day youare in fact ill that you'll get an email message from me abouta half hour after class is over: quot;So sorry to hear that youwere sick this morning. Hope you're feeling better verysoon.quot; So we do look after thesethings. Such an email went out lasttime, but I'm preaching to the converted because you'reyouguys are already here so good
for you. Let's continue with thediscussion of the elements of music. We're going to be working todaywith harmony. So far we've had two sessionsspecifically on rhythm, two sessions specifically onmelody, and today we come to harmony. Harmony is one of the twothings that really distinguishes
the music of WesterncivilizationWestern classical music, Western pop music. What are the two thingsé Well, as mentioned before, this dependence upon heavy usage of written musicalnotation not so much in the pop musicbut certainly in the classical musicwriting it all down, being able to manipulate it inthat fashion,
so that's one thing thatdistinguishes Western classical music. Another aspect that we'retalking about today is harmony. Stop and think about it. Think about the melodies ofChina and Japan, virtually everyand Islamiccountries virtually every musicalcivilization around the world has more sophisticated melodiesthan we do in the West.
Ours are very blunt in a way. They go from one discretefrequency to another discrete frequency to another discretefrequency, and they're not making use ofall of the material in between in any sort of nuanced way. Maybe it's because we're sodependent on the keyboard here. So that's important to keep inmind. Then let's talk about rhythmfor a moment.
Intermediate Music Theory Lyric Melody Harmony Intermediate Music Theory
Hi! I'm Mark Black and welcome to expertvillage .We're going to talk about intermediate theory concepts. We're going to start with talkingabout the basic song writing ideas. Now, this is song writing as appose to composition,so we're not talking about instrumental composition. I just want to mention brieflythat when you write a song there's 3 basic areas. There's the lyric, there's themelody, and there's harmony, which harmony is the chorus the song is based on. The melodyis the most important line, but with that regard to weather it has words or not. Soif I said da da da da da da da. That's the melody but there's not lyric. That's Somewhereover the rainbow. We don't know if I'm
saying I love sandwiches often. We don'tknow what I'm talking about but we can observe that melody, decide if we like it or don'tlike it. Okay, so the lyric should be able to exist as a poem that we can read it, andwithout reference to the music, say that is an interesting or unique or weird or verydirect or whatever. The melody, like I said existing without a lyric, and the way to observethat or to critique it is to either play it or hear it yourself done by a trumpet or anotherinstrument. Would that be pretty or attractive or aggressive with those kinds of thingsé.
