have no place to call home, but the City ofVirginia Beach is working hard to help those less fortunate receive necessary services. SOT 27:43 54Cheryl Molinet, Path Homeless Outreach Worker “Homeless has been a problem since therewere human beings on this earth and it always will be. It's how we treat it, how we workwith it and how we view it can either help or hinder the population. Annual events like Project Connect Day ofServices helps people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless access importantresources.
SOT 29:21 – 34Sharon Prescott, Housing Development Program Administrator“By reaching out they hope to make a connection and let them know the community cares andthat we are wanting to work with them to help them get out of homelessness. From health screen checks…to hot meals,a variety of services were offered. And a number of nonprofits were also on handto help out those in need. SOT 25:02 07Wanda Mozelle, Attended Project Connect Day of Services“They have people here to help people find jobs and housing and I think it's a greatthing. The annual homeless count and homeless connectare required by HUD yearly…rmation gathered helps with future funding. needs that we see. “The primary reasonwe do the count is to obtain the federal funding that is available through the continuum ofcare process. Official numbers have not been released yet,but preliminary data suggests an increase in the homeless population. SOT 33:09 – 20John Boylan, Homeless Policy and Resource Coordinator“The early indicators are that I'm thinking that we will see an increase over last yearfor the single adult population, on the family side I don't have an idea of that yet atthis point.
